Horticulture Education Center Approved by Board of Regents

The Botanic Garden at OSU will be building a new Horticulture Education Center!!!

The funding for this new building is a partnership with OSU, private donors, and TSET (The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust). Construction should start late this fall so look for updates from us as details are finalized. Thank you to everyone who has supported this effort! If you would like to contribute, please contact Lou Anella or the OSU Foundation.

Honoring Charlie Gray

Dr. Carl and LaJean Whitcomb are honoring their longtime friend Charlie Gray by endowing an Experience Fund for The Botanic Garden in Charlie’s name. Earnings from the fund will pay for student internships at the garden in perpetuity!

Charlie worked at OSU from the end of 1964 until his retirement in 2006. For 13+ of those 42 years Charlie helped Dr. Whitcomb manage experiments and field trials. After Dr. Whitcomb left OSU to start Lacebark Inc., Charlie continued to work with him. In all Charlie and Dr. Whitcomb have been side by side in the field for over 40 years! Dr. Whitcomb said, “I will always think of Charlie as a valued colleague and one of my best friends.”

We thank Dr. Whitcomb and LaJean for their generous donation and for honoring their friend Charlie Gray. If you would like to honor Charlie Gray and help build this endowment, donate to OSU Foundation Fund 21-65270.

Backyard Demonstration Garden

The Backyard Demonstration Garden teaches homeowners how to garden with limited space. QR codes will be placed throughout the garden linking to Oklahoma Gardening videos that discuss concepts in greater detail. This allows the casual visitor to take a self-guided tour through the garden while exploring new ideas that might work best for their situation. The Backyard Demonstration Garden was made possible through an Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry grant and an in-kind donation from the Noble Research Institute.

Friends of the Botanic Garden Board

In 2015 Friends of The Botanic Garden was formed to help with fundraising efforts and a board was elected. The board has been led by Jan McSwain as President and we thank Jan for her leadership and commitment to the gardens! Jan is stepping down from the board and Jen Anthony is taking her place as president. Thanks Jen.

Jeneane Campbell, Ray Campbell, Rick McSwain, and Kimberly Sadler are also leaving their posts on the board and leaving us in better shape thanks to years of delivering mums for our MUMbership drives. Taking their place on the board will be Dana Hare Bessinger, Michael Henneberry, Abbey Martin, Donna Smith, and Will Townsend, and continuing on the board are Ann Berry and Ann Halligan. We thank them all for their efforts in support of TBG!
